You have to admit that when you yourself were a teenager you were mostly focused on how to improve your relationship skills. Guys and girls would put forth their best efforts to be as cool and as good looking as possible in order to make the one they are after melt in a puddle at their feet. They don’t have time to worry about how to drive safely on the roads and what auto insurance quotes and rates are all about. If you are their parents then you need to get some auto insurance for your young drivers because at this stage in their life auto insurance is the least of their worries.
But, if you are one of those young drivers you will understand completely what it is that I am talking about. You have a school dance coming up, or even just a free weekend, and you have been eying this one certain girl (or guy) for over a month now…
Now is your chance to discover some new fun ways of how to ask this person out on a date! Get your pencil and paper out so you can take some good, much needed notes.
- This idea can be fun and fitting for any occasion, and enjoyable for all. Make a Candy Bar Poster! There are hundreds of unique types of candy out there and you can use each one to uniquely fit the message or invitation you want to write to your future date. Just the name of each candy can spark ideas of what to write. Here are some candy brands to help get you started on your message: Almond Joy, Hot Tamales, Swedish Fish, Mounds, Lifesavers, Baby Ruth, Starburst, Bazooka, Skittles, Jolly Rancher, Pay Day, Dum Dums, Mamba, Now and Later, Sweethearts, Skor, M&Ms, 3 Musketeers, Oh! Henry, Mr. Goodbar, Zero, Crackle, Smarties, Dots, Nerds, Kisses, Mars, Whoppers, Chuckles, Snickers, Reeses, Dove, Symphony, Twix, Sugar Daddy, Milky Way, Sugar Baby, KitKat, or Big Hunk. You can have lots of fun and be really creative with how you make this fun candy poster message.
- Mission: POSSIBLE. Record on a mini cassette tape (with a secret agent voice) a message like this: “Your date, should you choose to accept it, will be with John Smith at the homecoming dance, this Friday night at 6 PM. A man in black will pick you up at 10 minutes prior. John will want to self-destruct if you do not take immediate action…” (Obviously, you will want to change the specifics of the message to your particular occasion.) Send this tape accompanied with a tape recorder, or hand deliver it secretly, to the person you want to ask out.
- A Play on Moses and The 10 Commandments: write your message or invitation with a “commanding” tone using the words “thou shalt” or “thou shalt not.” For example: “thou shalt have no other dates before me. Thou shalt respond to John’s request to go out with him.” Or “Thou shall be ready at 6 PM, this Friday, the 30th of August.” To accompany the message you could make a tall mold of red Jell-O and request that they “part the Red Sea” in order to uncover it.
- Wanted: Preferably Alive. Create an old Western-style looking Wanted poster with a picture the person you want ask out. Make copies of the poster and post them around your dates’ house, school, or neighborhood (or the entire town if you are feeling bold). The poster should mention that there is a reward offered when this person comes (or is brought) to your house. You can even dress up like a sheriff to receive him (or her) as prisoner and ask him to the dance.
- Dead at the Door. With some help, draw a chalk outline of your lifeless body on the pavement in front of your dates house with a note that says “I would die to go to the dance with you.” Remember to also include your name and where and when the occasion will take place.
- EGGxtra Tricky: if it is Easter season it is time for some egg action! Collect a handful of colorful, empty plastic eggs. Write or type out your message or invitation and cut it into strips or strange shapes, like a puzzle. Mix up the pieces and divide them up evenly into the plastic eggs. Your date will have to crack open the eggs and crack your puzzle too!
- A Serenade for the Musically Inclined. Practice a song that you and your friends know and change the words to the song to explain the details of the occasion you want to invite your date to. Prepare the song if you want to play on the guitar or with the boom box and sing it at your dates’ front door, or under their bedroom window.
- No Strings Attached. Prepare a really long piece of string and tie one end to your dates’ front door. Take the string along places around the yard, around the house, inside or out, through vehicles and rooms, etc. tape notes along the way that say things like “I am not just stringing you along. Keep on going…” You lead your date into a fun tangled maze of suspense until they discover your invitation at the other end of the string.
The more concerned you are with getting a date to the dance, the less you are concerned about your auto insurance. Let your parents handle your young drivers auto insurance because you have much more important dating business to be worrying about.
