Car insurance guidelines for Kansas

The state of Kansas boasts of some of the most correctly and sufficiently insured drivers in the United States. Kansas state makes it mandatory for its drivers to have 4 major types of insurance coverage. A Bodily Injury Liability coverage pays for the injured persons medical expenses, and other costs including funeral costs in case you are proven to be at fault in the accident involving the other person. It also pays for your legal expenses such as for fighting law suits.

Kansas is a no fault state and as a result, each person’s Personal Injury Protection (PIP) pays for medical expenses, wages that the insured may stand to lose as a result of the accident and funeral costs in case of death regardless of who is at fault.

A Property Damage Liability pays for any damage caused to property in an accident. Such an insurance policy pays for repair, replacement of the other owner’s property.

An Uninsured Motorist Protection coverage pays for the medical expenses and/or rehabilitation costs. and funeral costs. It also pays for the settlement of lawsuits filed for an accident caused by an uninsured or hit-and-run motorist.

Apart from these mandatory coverages, a Collision insurance pays for the repair of your car while a Comprehensive insurance pays for damage to your auto resulting from natural causes or due to fire etc.

The Liability coverage is fixed at $25,000 per person for bodily injury and $50,000 per accident for bodily injury and $10,000 per accident for property damage. This fixed amount is generally referred to as 25/55/10.

The minimum amount for Personal injury protection is fixed at $4,500 per person for medical expenses and $900 per month for one year for disability or a loss of income and $25/day for in-home services and $2,000 for funeral, burial or cremation expenses. The Uninsured person’s insurance package is fixed at $25,000 per person and $50,000 per accident.

Your insurance rates are generally governed by your driving records. Insurance companies are known to have maintained a strict policy on the rate of insurance by obtaining the driving records from the government agencies and then assessing and analyzing it before coming up with a particular amount for your insurance.

Whatever be the rates of insurance that the company comes up with, you can even consult your insurance agent about the possibility of obtaining discounts, based on your accident free record or because the amount you drive is very less compared to others of your group.

Thus be sure to ask for any possibility of a rate cut in your insurance amount.
